A3RO addresses global challenges through advanced and applied architecture-led interdisciplinary research. Architecture is essential to pursuing solutions to global social and environmental challenges as they require us to collectively imagine different worlds and invent ways to realise them together.

A3RO is comprised of the Complexity, Planning and Urbanism – laboratory [CPU]lab – and Inclusive Cities [IC]lab

Our processes involve: Co-production and participation; AI in computer simulation and data analysis for design studies and Urban Transformation; Complex systems frameworks; Neighbourhood planning  and smart participation; Building reuse, Degrowth and Urban ecology; Smart Cities and technological shifts. A(3)RO, with its extensive stakeholder and research networks at a national, regional and international scales will explore Action on Healthy Ageing and Design of Smart and Sustainable Future Cities as an International Centre of Excellence.

We collaborate to research the synergies and tensions between: Population growth, ageing and urbanisation; Zero Carbon Future Cities and Climate Change; Urban development and equity; Urban resilience, Smart Planning and participation; Resource conservation and biodiversity; Socio-Technical Transitions and Sustainable Transitions.
