
Gladys Pearson
Professor of Musculoskeletal Frailty and Rehabilitation at the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK
Professor Pearson holds a BSc(Hons) from the University of East London UK since 1996, an MSc in Physiology from University College London UK since 1997, a PhD in Physiology also from University College London UK since 2002, as well as several teaching qualifications (PPGCAP, FHEA) and research-based fellowships (Physiological Society, Royal Society of Biology). She has since held positions as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, Research Fellow, Reader and now Professor at the Manchester Metropolitan University Manchester UK, where she held a Director position at the Musculoskeletal Science and Sports Medicine (MSSM) Research Centre for over 11 years (previously Health Exercise and Active Living).
Her research focuses on ageing, optimising exercise protocols, habitual physical activity and sedentary behaviour impact on frailty, sarcopenic-obesity, chronic pain and neuromuscular conditions.

Healthy Ageing Expertise
Professor Pearson’s research interests lie in lifestyle micro-interventions to increase vitality in later life; improving in vivo physiological techniques; digital health; musculoskeletal frailty and rehabilitation; and the impact of environmental factors.
Her research has informed several national and international policies, including the 2019 Exercise Recommendations for Older Adults by the UK Chief Medical Officers.
