Kasia Nawratek

Senior Lecturer in Architecture at Manchester School of Architecture

Kasia Nawratek’s long-term research program centers on Radical Inclusivity in architecture, urbanism, and architectural education, with a focus on redefining the production and perception of space to embrace complexity, diversity, and temporal dynamics. Her work explores how architecture can move beyond static, human-centric models toward dynamic, relational systems that include human and non-human actors, reject waste, and address social, environmental, and ethical challenges.

As an awarded author of Polish children’s literature—most notably recognized with the 2017 Kornel Makuszyński Polish Nationwide Literary Award for her book Kresek, Bartek i całkiem zwyczajny początek—her creative writing practice deeply informs her academic pursuits. Integrating feminist perspectives, posthumanism, and polyphonic narratives inspired by Mikhail Bakhtin, she challenges hierarchical and exclusionary structures in architectural practice and education. Her literary background enriches her research by bringing narrative imagination, linguistic diversity, and a sensitivity to subjective experiences into spatial inquiry, bridging architecture and literature. This dual identity as an architect and writer drives her aim for a just, sustainable, and richly imaginative built environment.
