
Liam Harper
Senior Lecturer in Physiology at the Department of Life Sciences, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK
Dr Harper joined Manchester Metropolitan University as a Senior Lecturer in Physiology in January 2022 after five years at the University of Huddersfield. Prior to his role at Huddersfield, Liam completed a PhD at Northumbria University, Newcastle on the physiological and performance responses to the extra-time period of soccer. Liam is a BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Liam is also a member of the British American Football Association (BAFA) Sport Science & Medicine Committee and is particularly passionate about advancing the sport of Flag Football.
His research interests currently lie in exercise and nutritional interventions for both performance and health. In particular, his research is in team sports, from a performance, physiological and nutritional perspective, as well as the use of adapted sports and nutrition as a way of improving the health and well-being of an older population.

Dr Harper’s research interests lie in exercise and nutritional interventions for older adults. In particular, modified sports (e.g., walking football) that can enhance physical, social and mental wellbeing.
