Understanding and addressing the spatial implications of structural discrimination. We explore the conceptualisation, design, implementation, and evaluation of programmes and interventions that promote spatial justice.

Over the last 15 years our flagship inclusive cities research has established interdisciplinary collaborations with policy makers, practitioners and local communities enabling the development of Greater Manchester’s whole system place-based public health policy and programmes for healthy ageing, recognised by the World Health Organisation as global exemplars. In that time, our architectural research has developed advanced data synthesis methods and representations, programme design and delivery processes and co-production approaches across diverse implementation contexts working directly with a wide range of communities.

Inclusive cities research efforts are grouped in four themes below to aid navigation but are all interlinked as we have established a cycle using advanced research of inclusive spaces, programmes and methods to design prototypes which are applied and evaluated to generate fundamental theoretical insights. These are supported by a research environment which integrates post-graduate research and pedagogy.
